Fairtrade

To encourage more people to think about what they’re buying and where it comes from, Manchester City Council led the bid to make Manchester a Fairtrade City and was awarded Fairtrade status jointly with Salford during the 100 Days 2005 campaign.

The FAIRTRADE Mark is not about charity; it’s a consumer label that appears on products as an independent guarantee that disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a fair price for what they’ve produced.

FAIRTRADE - Guarantees a better deal for Third World Producers

Choosing products with the Fairtrade logo means that your shopping choice guarantees a living wage for some of the world’s poorest farmers, with the added benefit of stringent environmental standards.

Fairtrade Fortnight takes place from 25 February – 9 March and there’ll be lots of promotional activities taking place to further spread the message of what Fairtrade means, what it stands for and how it’s making such an impact upon some of the poorest communities worldwide.

Many shops, outlets and even supermarkets now stock a wide range of Fairtrade products, so it’s really not difficult, hugely expensive or inconvenient to make the ‘fair’ choice. For more information about Fairtrade in Manchester please click here.
