What is The Co2mmunity Challenge?

Climate change will affect us all. We need to act now to lower our carbon emissions and be prepared for the impact on our communities and local environment. There are a number of ways to tackle climate change; for example we can look at the amount of energy we use in our daily lives, and choose ways to reduce our own energy use and we can act together in our communities to work out a solution that suits a local area. Manchester City Council wants you to be part of the solution!

Are you looking to lower your carbon footprint and live a lower carbon life? Could you inspire and lead people in your neighbourhood to reduce the city's carbon footprint and make climate change action part of our everyday lives? If you want to find out more about how your community can work together to improve the environment, live healthier and a more sustainable life - or if you have a great idea for a project in your home, street, community, school, and workplace, or even in your local park then we want to hear from you! Together we can cut CO2, but we need to act now.

Be inspired!

Case Studies

Want to get involved?

If you've got a project or idea that lowers carbon emissions, is community led, innovative and inspirational, and you want to make it happen, why not complete an on line application form or get in contact to discuss your project? Projects are assessed against criteria including how the project will improve the local environment and tackle climate change, opportunity for replication, and the carbon savings that will be generated. Match funding of 50% is encouraged to increase the benefits delivered, but is not compulsory. Successful projects will feed into Manchester's climate change action plan, which is scheduled for publication in late 2009.
