Project Profile: Zest in New Moston - Healthy Living Project

08/08/2009

Zest is a Healthy Living Project covering the North Manchester area.

Zest’s overall vision is to help create opportunities for everyone in North Manchester to be involved in choosing happier, healthier lives, through working with resident and community groups like NEPHRA Residents Association.

Communities know what they would like to happen in their area - what would make a difference. So we work in partnership to set up and support activities which help to:

Increase physical activity

Improve nutrition

Help to reduce stress and isolation

We support communities in identifying their own health needs and priorities. We look to find ways to help develop solutions and ensure that residents get the opportunity to influence the way services are provided.

In New Moston we have supported the setting up a Moston Health Forum, so that health issues and suggested solutions stay firmly on the agenda. Moston Health Forum has local residents sitting alongside paid workers from a range of agencies, as well as local councillors and everyone’s views count.

If you or a member of your association is interested in joining the Health Forum then please ring Shirley. You would be guaranteed a welcome.

In New Moston, working with NEPHRA there are a lot of regular activities taking place: At the Parkfield Dance Centre, Parkfield Road North, every Thursday we have:

9.15am Yoga (beginners welcome) – Cost £1.50
10.45am Baby & Toddler Yoga for children 6 months - 4yrs (and mum/dad or grandparent get to join in too) – Cost £1.50
12.45pm Card & Craft – Cost £1.50 + small cost of materials
3.00pm Learning to Dance – Cost £1.50

At New Moston Library we have two sessions of Tai Chi

Mondays 1.00pm - FREE

Saturdays 10.30pm – FREE

If you are interested in any of the activities listed above, you can just turn up – no need to book. If you want further information or want to join the Moston Health Forum then please ring Shirley on 655 7882 or email on s.mccardell@manchester.gov.uk.
